In a cylindrical tank for storing volatile liquids a floating roof 14 supports slidingly against the inside of the tank wall 10 an annular sealing ring of segments 22 having upper and lower inward flanges 23 and 24 notched at 25, 26 from edge to bend so as to produce lines of weakness 27 to permit the segments to bend. The segments are circumferentially disposed in groups, each group being urged towards the wall and supported from the roof by several expandable hanger members 19 and 71 of which one (71) per group is unrestrained in the radial direction only. Impervious, flexible fabric forms an annular seal 17 between the ring and the roof and at 39 connects vertical flanges 35 on the edge segments of adjacent groups. Groups comprise three to nine, but preferably five segments, joined at their vertical edges by narrow arcuately-recessed strips (Fig. 10, not shown). The hangers 19 are of the " pantograph " type described in Specification 644,817. The hangers 71 which are provided at the centre of each group of segments, consist of plungers sliding radially in guides 70 on the tank roof 14 actuated by springs 72 and restrained by rollers 73 and 74 and by a vertical rail 76 fixed inside the tank wall. The wall of the tank is supported by a wind-girder 11 externally near the top. The edges of the fabric at the junctions 39 is shaped to allow slack to adjust for movement.
