Abstract

The invention comprises alkylphenyl monoethers of the polyoxyalkylene glycols of the general formula <FORM:0882623/IV (b)/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, the total number of carbon atoms of R and R1 is from 6 to 10, n is 3 or 4, X is a number in the range of 3 to 5, Y is a number in the range of 4 to 6, and the product nx does not exceed 3y. In an example, 1 mol of 2,4-di-sec-butylphenol is reacted, in the presence of KOH, with 4 mols of propylene oxide at a temperature of about 130 DEG C. The intermediate product is then reacted with 5 mols of ethylene oxide. The compounds of the invention are suitable wetting-agents for agricultural spray compositions (see Group VI).ALSO:Agricultural spray compositions comprise a herbicide, insecticide or a fungicide and, as wetting agent, an alkylphenyl mono-ether of a polyoxyalkylene glycol of the general formula <FORM:0882623/VI/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, the total number of carbon atoms of R and R1 is from 6 to 10, n is 3 or 4, X is a number in the range of 3 to 5, Y is a number in the range of 4 to 6, and the product nx does not exceed 3y. Active components specifically mentioned are: sodium 2,2 - dichloropropionate, sodium trichloroacetate, 2,4 - dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, D.D.T., benzene hexachloride and a chlorinated camphene containing an average of 67 to 69% chlorine.
