Abstract

A strongly basic anion exchanger placed after an ammonium salt-regenerated main cation exchanger in the de-ionisation of e.g., sugar-containing solutions is regenerated by producing an alkali metal carbonate either by the main cation exchanger or by an additional exchanger, rendering the alkali metal carbonate caustic by the action of lime, and using the solution obtained to effect the regeneration. The production of the alkali metal carbonate from the waste solutions obtained in the de-ionisation is described with reference to Figs. 2 to 5 (not shown). The strongly basic anion exchanger may also be treated from time to time with a solution of sodium chloride to remove adsorbed colouring matter.ALSO:A strongly basic anion exchanger placed after an ammonium salt-regenerated main cation exchanger in the deionisation of sugar-containing solutions is regenerated by producing an alkali metal carbonate either by the main cation exchanger or by an additional exchanger, rendering the alkali metal carbonate caustic by the action of lime, and using the solution obtained to effect the regeneration.
