Abstract
The invention comprises a solution, in dimethylsulphoxide, of acid casein and another fibre- or film-forming polymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene terephthalate or cellulose acetate. The proportion of casein in the solution may be less than that of the other polymer and may be 15% or lower. The solution may be formed by mixing a solution of acid casein in dimethylsulphoxide with a solution of the other polymer in dimethylsulphoxide. Filaments, fibres, films and like shaped articles may be produced from the solution by removal of the solvent by evaporation, or by means of a coagulating liquid. The shaped article may be subsequently treated, e.g. with formaldehyde, to insolubilize the casein. The presence of the casein in the solution increases the affinity of the shaped articles made therefrom for both acid and basic wool dyes.ALSO:The invention comprises a solution of acid casein in dimethyl sulphoxide. The concentration of the casein may be 15% or lower. The solution may contain another fibre-or film-forming polymer which is soluble in dimethyl sulphoxide e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, polycrylonitrile, polyethylene terephthalate or cellulose acetate. The proportion of casein in the solution may be less than that of the other polymer. The solution may be formed by mixing a solution of acid casein in dimethylsulphoxide with a solution of the other polymer in dimethylsulphoxide. Filaments, fibres, films and other shaped articles may be produced by removal of the solvent from the solution by evaporation, or by means of a coagulating liquid. The shaped article may be subsequently treated, e.g. with formaldehyde, to insolubilise the casein.
