Abstract

881,437. Gas cleansers. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DU NORD ET DU PAS-DE-CALAIS. Jan. 8, 1959 [March 3, 1958 ; June 23, 1958], No. 803/59. Class 55 (2). A particle-laden gas is mixed with an aerosol in a Venturi passage of a scrubber such that the gas is circulated by means of a compressedair ejector placed in axial alignment with and at the inlet of the Venturi passage, the ejector simultaneously acting as an aerosal atomizer, whereby the particles become heavier after their mixing with the aerosol and are subsequently collected by impingement against a plate disposed across the outlet of the Venturi passage. The plate may be located in a fixed position. The ejector atomizer may produce a coneshaped aerosol-jet directed towards the neck of the Venturi passage and a radial sheet or annular aerosol-jet at the inlet end of the Venturi passage. As shown, Venturi passage 1 has an ejector atomizer 3 located at its inlet end 1a. Compressed-air supply line 5 and water-supply line 6 may be connected to ejector 3. Ejector 3 may have three-fold function in that (1) by delivering an axial jet of compressed-air it creates within the Venturi passage a suction whereby the particle-laden gas is conveyed through the passage, (2) the aerosol is atomized by the ejector and is directed towards the neck of the Venturi passage, and (3) the ejector sprays an annular jet of aerosol across the inlet of the Venturi passage.
