A storage battery is provided with separate covers 2 for each cell, and each cover is provided with a filling opening in which is a screwthreaded gas vent, Fig. 11. The vent is formed with a collar 5 which is surmounted by a pushon cap 6, Fig. 1, having a side opening and a tube 8 connecting all the caps together and which conducts gas to a point outside the battery. The tube 8 is made in sections so that its length can be adjusted. Instead of the vent being provided with the collar 5, the cover 2 may be formed with an upstanding tubular wall in or over which the cap 6 is fitted. The tube 8 may be of round or rectangular section, and the covers 2 may be recessed so that the caps 6 lie flush with the tops of the covers. Specification 881,403 is referred to.
