Abstract

880,843. Electroplating barrels. ALKAN Ltd., M. L., and ELECTROLYTIC Ltd. June 14, 1960 [July 1, 1959], No. 22582/59. Class 41. Electroplating barrels are improved by constructing the walls from two coaxial perforated shells 1, 2, the perforations 3 in one shell being offset with respect to the perforations 4 in the second shell. The electroplating barrel is constructed in the form of hollow coaxial cylinders or hollow polygonal prisms in which the shells 1, 2 are spaced apart from each other by thin strips of non-metallic material fixed between the sheets, e.g. in the case of hollow polygonal prisms, along the longitudinal peripheral edges thereof. The shells are constructed from a synthetic thermoplastic or thermosetting material which is electrically insulating, e.g. polymethyl methacrylate. The polygonal barrel may be fitted with a removable panel for addition and removal of the articles to be plated, and both barrels may have external scoops in order to improve still further the flow of solution into the barrel.
