880,134. Differential gear; change speed gear. GERTRIEBEWERK LEIPZIG VEB. Feb. 6, 1959, No. 4256/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] In a four-axle drive for a vehicle such as a crane having a rotatable upper chassis, in which the engine is mounted, a split transmission gear casing with relatively rotatable parts 1, 2, Fig. 3, is mounted on the lower chassis at the centre of rotation of the upper chassis and receives a drive in the upper part 1 as by shaft 3 from the change speed gear and encloses a pair of differentials 12, 24, Fig. 1, in the lower part 2, each of which drives one inner and one outer axle pair (I and III or II and IV) through shafts 18, 19, 30 and 31. The drive to the differentials comprises bevel gears 4, vertical hollow shaft 5, spur gears 6, 7, 8 and bevel gears 10, 11, the drive from the gear 8 to the differential 24 being normally disengaged by a clutch 21, Fig. 2, so that only one pair of axles II, IV is driven. During four-axle drive the clutch 21 serves as compensating slip clutch between each pair of axles. The differentials have locks 33, 34 for use with bad surface conditions. An hydraulic pump 32 for lubrication, clutch operation, &c. is driven from the shaft 19.
