879,704. Pneumatic springs. PNEUMAT1QUES ET CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE KLEBER COLOMBES. Feb. 29, 1960, No. 7020/60. Class 108(3). In a pneumatic spring of the type in which a flexible diaphragm 12 Fig. 3 is deformed by a piston 16 the spring rate is adjusted by varying the shape of the internal face of the container 18 on which the diaphragm rolls. The shape may be varied mechanically by the use of jointed or relatively slidable elements but in the particular example the container 18 is lined by a flexible inflatable container 19 which is inflatable to reduce the overall radial dimensions of the diaphragm 12. The system may be applied to a spring in which a flexible air chamber is squeezed between two rigid elements.
