Abstract
Rubbery iso-olefine-multiolefine copolymers of low unsaturation are mixed with an oxycarbon black, subjected to a temperature of from 250 DEG -450 DEG F., and one or more plasticizers added in a proportion of from 0,5%-50% based on the copolymer, to yield products with improved stress and elastic properties. Isobutylene copolymerized with butadiene, dimethyl butadiene, isoprene, pentadiene, hexadiene, dimethyl butadiene, piperylene, dimethallyl and cyclopentadiene may be used and the carbon black, e.g. channel black or a treated furnace black has an oxidized or active oxygen-containing surface with a pH value of less than 7. The heat treatment may be during the agitation, and the amount of carbon black may range from 20-200 parts by weight of the copolymer. The plasticizers may be light or heavy hydrocarbon oils, preferably a paraffinic distillate of 40 s.s.u. at 210 DEG F., ethers or esters and conventional fillers and pigments may be included. After treatment the copolymer composition may be combined with sulphur and non-sulphur curing agents and cured. The products are suitable as tyre treads, casings or inner tubes, electrical insulation, tank linings, and waterproof fabrics and they retain high chemical resistance.
