Abstract

879,471. Studs and sockets; clamps. ADIE, K. S. Sept. 3, 1959 [Sept. 20, 1958], No. 30139/58. Class 44. A releasable fastening for detachably connecting a reflector 18 to an electric light fitting 10, for example, comprises a base member 23 adapted to be secured, e.g. by welding, to the fitting 10, and a screw 29 having a head 31 and carried by a slide 27 which is movably mounted on the base member 23, the screw 29 being adapted to engage a key-hole slot 37 in the reflector 18. The slide 27 is disposed in guiding aperture 26 in the base member 23 and is releasably located in alternative positions by a peg 34 on the latter selectively engaging in holes 35 in the slide, the alternative positions corresponding to the positions of the head 31 of the screw 29 at the enlarged portion 39 and the narrower portion 38, respectively, of the key-hole slot. To connect the reflector 18 to the fitting 10 the reflector is applied against the underside of the fitting with the slide 27 in the first of the alternative positions and the head 31 of the screw 29 protruding through the enlarged portion 39 of the slot 37, the slide 27 is then lifted to disengage the peg 34 from the hole 35 corresponding to that position of the slide and is moved to the other of the alternative positions. The screw 29 is thereafter screwed upwardly so as to clamp together the reflector and the fitting. The keyhole slot may be formed so as to have the enlarged portion centrally thereof, in which case the slide would be arranged to be releasably located in three positions. The peg 34 and the holes 35 may be replaced by a spring-loaded plunger selectively engaging recesses. More than one headed screw may be carried on a common slide. The Provisional Specification describes also the base member being formed as a metal pressing and being releasably located by a dimple thereon engaging recesses or apertures on the slide.
