Abstract

879,038 Yarn guides. T. M. M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Nov. 27, 1959 [Nov. 27,1958], No. 38333/58. Class 120(2) Two guide members of annular cross-section and coaxial with the spindle of a ring spinning machine, one member being mounted separately from the spindle and the other of greater diameter than the first and formed integral with or fixed to the spindle, are so arranged that a yarn passed through the smaller member and over the rim of the larger member is deflected through an angle greater than 90 degress. The yarn may also be deflected through an angle greater than 90 degrees as it passes over the rim of the larger member. The members may comprise respectively a tube 16 rotatably mounted on an arm 18 hinged to the frame to facilitate doffing and the cylindrical end wall 13 of a spindle 11 having an axial recess. Alternatively the smaller member may comprise a ring of circular section, a flared tube or a stationary tube with or without a rotatable end piece; the larger member may comprise the end wall of a take-up bobbin which projects beyond the end of the spindle. The smaller member may be rotated with the spindle by a magnetic coupling comprising a magnet 20 held on the tube 16 by a copper sleeve 21 and a horseshoe magnet 15 fitted within the wall 13 or by a belt drive, air turbine or electric motor.
