Abstract
878,613. Electro-mechanical disc brakes. ALETHEA ELECTRIC Ltd. Feb. 17, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1958], No. 37155/58. Class 103 (1). In an electro-mechanical disc brake, for an electric motor of the kind in which a brake disc 13 secured coaxially on the motor shaft 11, is arranged between non-rotatable movable brake members 14 and 15, which are normally biased towards each other to exert a braking pressure on the faces of the disc 13, when the motor is switched off, the movable brake member is movable against the bias of spring 27 to release the braking pressure, by an electro-mechanical mechanism, the mechanism being energized when the motor is switched on. A solenoid 35 is arranged at one side of the axis of the motor shaft, and operates a lever 32 extending from the solenoid to a pivotal connection 31 at the opposite side of the axis to one of the brake members 14. The movable brake members are interconnected by a spring system biasing them towards each other to grip the disc 13 between them. The other movable brake member has in the path of movement of the lever an abutment which will be acted upon by lever 32 when the solenoid is energized to overcome the spring system bias whereby to release the grip of the movable brake member on the disc.
