878,479. Friction clutches. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. Oct. 29, 1959 [Oct. 29, 1958], No. 36809/59. Class 80 (2). In an hydraulically operated multi-disc friction clutch driving and driven discs 12, 13 are axially separated during disengagement by sets of separating members 29, each member of each set engaging two of the driving discs 12 or a driving disc and a presser plate 15a or back plate 10a and each set being axially staggered with respect to adjacent sets so that the members 29 interconnect all the driving discs 12, presser plate 15a and back plate 10a and the disengaging movement of the presser plate 15a axially separates the driving discs 12 from the driven discs 13. The presser plate 15a is integral with a piston 15 which is moved left against a return spring 23 by pressure liquid supplied through a duct 19 to a chamber 21. The back plate 10a is integral with the driving shaft 10 and has the driving discs 12 splined thereto. The discs 13 are splined to a driven drum 2 which carries a gear pinion 1. Lubricating oil supplied at 27 passes through axially staggered sets of ducts 34 ... 38 to the clutch plates 12, 13 and through a duct 28 to a bore 24 which carries the return spring 23 to assist the latter in disengaging the clutch.
