Abstract
A heat-hardenable mixture comprises polyvinyl acetate and 3%-10% of ferric or stannic chloride, said mixture having been formed by mixing the ingredients at a temperature below about 175 DEG F. The ingredients may be mixed in a mutual solvent, such as benzene, toluene, methanol, acetone, methyl acetate or ethyl acetate, and cast into a thin film. Plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate, diacetin or tricresyl phosphate may also be present. The film may be used to splice the ends of sheets of paper or other materials by placing between the overlapping edges of the paper and subjecting to pressure and heat between 325 DEG and 475 DEG F.
