Abstract

878,285. Hose reels. JONES & CO. (ENGINEERING) Ltd., SAMUEL, and PHILLIPS, C. H. July 15, 1960 [July 31, 1959], No. 26443/59. Class 99(2). A spring loaded valve 1 is opened on rotation of a hose reel 6 by a cam 10 which is rotated on initial rotation of the hose reel by a stud 20 on the hose reel engaging a spring loaded lug 14 which is pivoted to the cam plate and which, after rotation of the cam through a predetermined angle, is withdrawn from driving connection with the stud 20 to allow further rotation of the hose reel without effect on the valve. As shown, the valve 1 is mounted on a wall bracket 2 and is connected at its inlet 3 to a water supply and at its outlet 4 to a hose 5 coiled on the reel 6. The cam is mounted on a stub shaft 9 projecting from the wall and carries a pair of lugs 14 and stops 12, the latter engaging a fixed stop 13 on the wall to limit the cam movement. The lug 14 moves in a circular path of radius less than that of the stud 20 and after initial clockwise movement of the cam and engagement of the stops 12, 13 one of the lugs 14 is moved to a position away from the path of the stud 20 so that further reeling off of the hose is permitted. When coiling the hose the stud 20 contacts the other lug 14 and rotates the cam to close the valve.
