Abstract

The invention comprises the metal complexes containing one atom of cobalt or chromium bound to two identical or different molecules of a monoazo dyestuff of formula:- <FORM:0878024/IV(c)/1> wherein X is an acyclic alkyl radical having 4 to 8 carbon atoms and A is the radical of an azo component bound to the azo group in orthoposition to a hydroxy or amino group and free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups and sulphone or sulphonamide groups. They are prepared by diazotizing a 6-nitro- 4-alkyl- 2-aminophenol, coupling the diazonium compound with suitable coupling components or a mixture thereof and metallizing in known manner. The complexes are acetone-soluble and may be used to colour cellulose acetate in the mass in red, brown, blue and black shades. In examples cobalt and chromium complexes of the following dyestuffs are prepared:-6-nitro- 4-tert. amylphenol --> 2-naphthol or 1-phenyl- 3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone or a mixture thereof; 6-nitro- 4-tert. butyl- 2-aminophenol --> 2-aminonaphthalene; 6-nitro- 4-tert. amyl- 2-aminophenol --> 5 : 8-dichloro-1-naphthol or acetoacetanilide. Further additional components specified are 6-nitro- 4-n-butyl-or n- or iso-amyl- or -n-octyl- or -(11 : 11 : 31 : 31-teramethylbutyl)- 2-aminophenol and 6-methoxy- 2-aminonaphthalene, 5-chloro- 1-naphthol and 0-, m- or pchloro- or -methyl-acetoacetanilide.
