Abstract

877,177. Boxes. DIXON, R. Jan. 18, 1960 [Oct. 18, 1958], No. 33344 /58. Class 18. A box blank which provides a body, Fig. 1, having a base 10, side walls 12, 13, 14, and a lid 11, has secured to the lid 11 and the base 10 panels of material 20, 21, that are of such an area that they project beyond the walls of the erected box but do not prevent the box from lying flat when not erected. The panels 20, 21 are glued in position and may be covered with a sheet of paper 22 or other suitable material such as silk, cotton or other fabric. Alternatively, the panels 20, 21 may be mitred at their corners and bent back on themselves along their edges as at 22. The box blank, Fig. 3, has gusset folds in its corners, four different kinds being shown. The two top gussets have a diagonal fold line 17 and an adhesive on their underfaces. At the bottom left hand corner the gusset has an arcuate cut 27 forming inner and outer gusset portions. By means of a fold line 26 the inner gusset portion can be secured to the end wall 14 and the outer gusset portion can be secured to the side wall 12, the securing means being adhesive illustrated by the dotted areas. The gusset at the bottom right hand corner is made up of four triangular parts having a main fold line 28 and intermediate fold lines 29, 30.
