Abstract
876,456. Storing liquefied gases. UNION TANK CAR CO. May 4, 1960, No. 15737/60. Class 8(2). A horizontally disposed storage tank 10 for liquefied gas at ambient temperature e.g. petroleum gas, comprising nozzle receiving means communicating with the interior of the tank and located at a point on the cylindrical wall thereof, the nozzle receiving means being disposed at an acute angle to the vertical diametrical plane of the cylinder 10 through the said point whereby the nozzle 25 can be detachably connected to the nozzle receiving means comprising a filling valve 15 screwed into the outwardly disposed face 27a of a forged bar 14 having inserts 14a within an aperture 13 of the tank 10 for attachment welding therein ; the face 27a has other threaded holes for pressure, a liquid height gauge and discharge valve, &c. The preferred angle of the filling valve 15 to the vertical is 45 degrees thus causing the liquid gas, on injection, to impinge upon the tank wall 10 just below the horizontal diametrical plane and thus cause a swirling motion 33 in the liquid gas and an enhanced heat transfer effect through the wall 10 of the tank with an associated drop in pressure and temperature and hence an increase in the filling rate.
