Abstract
876,361. Cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd. Dec. 10, 1959 [Feb. 24, 1959], No. 6378/59. Class 36. Single or multi-core cables with plastic insulation have each core screened by a laminated screening material applied both on the inside and the outside of the insulation. Each screening layer consists of a film of plastic material having a metal foil bonded to one surface, the plastic side being adjacent to the insulation which is extruded over the inner screening layer to cause adherence thereof by fusion, and which may be caused to fuse to the outer layer by heat and mechanical treatment. The plastic material of the laminate must have an elastic extensibility not less than that of the plastic insulation, e.g. both may be of polyethylene, or the insulation may be of p.v.c. and the laminate base of p.v.c., a vinyl chloracetate copolymer, or rubber hydrochloride. The metal of the laminate may be aluminium.
