Abstract
875,667. Lamp caps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Feb. 6, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 3913/58. Class 38 (1). A discharge lamp 1 (Fig. 2) is provided with a base 3 comprising an annular aluminium shell and a plastic insulating disc 5 having a boss 7 with a central hole 8 in which are secured two sheetmetal contacts of the form shown in Fig. 6. The outer ends 27 and tabs 29 of the contacts fit into recesses in the face of boss 7 while side pieces 25, 26 are flared out to engage the sloping face of the semiconical recesses 32 in the inner face of disc 5 so that the contacts are held in place. Alternatively, the contacts may be moulded in the disc 5. The wall of aperture 8 behind the contacts contain wiring passages leading from the semiconical recesses. The lead-in wires of the discharge lamp extend through these passages and through holes in eyelets 28 on the contacts to which they are soldered or are welded by discharging a condenser through a welding electrode contacting the eyelet and the associated lead-in wire. The top 41 of the eyelet is made thin so as to have a low thermal mass.
