Abstract
873,646. Angular bending. HOWELL, N. March 7, 1960 [March 6, 1959], No. 7945/59. Class 83 (4). A machine for bending bars and tubes incorporates a rotatable bending head associated with a former, a double-acting cylinder and piston device and a differential pulley system incorporationg two cables operatively connecting the cylinder and piston device with the bending head the arrangement being such that movement of the piston in one direction or the other tensions one or other of the cables to cause the bending head to rotate in one direction or the other. A bending head 7 carries rollers 12 adjusted by a screw device 11, which bend a bar or tube, clamped to the machine table, around the former fitted to a pin 8 around which the bending head 7 is rotated by a doubleacting cylinder 2 and piston 3. The piston 3 is drivingly connected to the head 7 by two cables 13, 16. The cable 13 is secured to one end 15 of the machine frame and at the other end to a pulley 9, fixed to the head 7 and coaxial with the pin 8, and runs over a pulley 6 carried by a rod 4 of the piston 3. The cable 16 is secured at one end 19 to the piston-rod 4 and at the other end to a pulley 10, fixed to the head 7 and of half the diameter of the pulley 9, and runs over an idler pulley 18 on the machine frame. Thus as the piston 3 moves away from the bending head the pulley 6 will move the cable 13 to rotate the head 7 in one direction and as the piston 3 moves back towards the bending head it pulls the cable 16 to rotate the head 7 in the opposite direction.
