Abstract
873,181. Universal joints. LEMFORDER METALLWARENGESELLSCHAFT, and DURKOPPWERKE A.G. Aug. 29, 1958, No. 27825/58. Class 80 (2). A universal joint comprises a ring 1 of a flexible plastic material, e.g. a polyurethanebase plastic, within which are cast two rigid rings 2, 2<SP>1</SP> secured by bolts engaging tapped holes 3 to flanges on the ends of the connected shafts, the plastic material passing through holes 5 in the rigid rings which may be made from metal, porcelain or a plastic. The flexible plastic ring 1 may be formed with annular recesses 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, to give increased flexibility, and may include radial cooling passages 7. Covering rings 9 of U-shaped cross-section may enclose the ends of the flexible ring 1.
