Abstract
873,122. Automatic temperature-control systems. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Dec. 16, 1959 [June 8, 1959], No. 19516/39. Addition to 802,333. Class 38 (4). [Also in Groups XI, XIII and XXXVII] A thermostatic oven comprises a jacket having a wall constituted by a bellows 6 made of heat-conducting material, a heating winding 12 in the convolutions of said bellows and in good heat exchanging relationship therewith, a container 1 e.g. for a piezoelectric crystal within said jacket, a material 2 of predetermined melting point temperature filling the space between the jacket and the container, and means operated by movement of said flexible wall in consequence of change of volume of the filling material on melting or solidifying for controlling energization of the heating winding. In the form shown the bellows 6 is secured at one end to a ceramic member 4 having a hole 4a providing access to the container 1 and at the other end to a brass member 5 having a filler tube 7 through which naphthalene is fed and the tube then sealed off to form a contact for operating a microswitch 11. The heating winding 12 is continued in recesses 5a on the member 5. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the container is the sealed can of a crystal unit which is supported inside the bellows 6 by wires which are soldered to connector rods passing through ceramic brushes in a brass end member.
