Abstract

872,702. Thermal switches; rotary switches. RANCO Inc. July 9, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 23598/59. Class 38 (5). A rotary switch having cam-operated spring contact blades is provided with a hollow rotary shaft through which a coaxial operating member for an optional thermostat can be placed. The switch blades 42, 43 carry contacts, each engaging one of two fixed contacts and are displaced by a cam 44 having suitable operating portions. The shaft 45 extends through the front plate 57 of the switch and carries a knob 65. The shaft stops short of the switch back-plate 58 which has an opening corresponding in size and position with the bore of the shaft. A thermostat T of known construction can thus be actuated for temperature adjustment by a second knob 75 driving a cam 23 by a shaft 24. The switch can be used alone by replacing the back-platew ithan imperforate one and the knob with one without a through bore.
