Abstract

871,798. Spinning and finishing yarns. BRITISH CELANESE Ltd. Feb. 28, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 6877/57. Class 120(3) A jet, wherein single or doubled yarn (or tow) of continuous filaments is bulked by the action of a turbulent fluid stream, comprises a chamber 20 which yarn enters through an inlet tube 13 the diameter of the bore 25 of which is reduced at the inlet end 27 and leaves through a Venturi outlet portion 14 and to which fluid e.g. compressed air or moist steam, is supplied through passage 18 to flow away from tube 13 towards the outlet. It is suggested that the larger diameter portion of the tube 13 acts as a resonance cavity in which cyclic irregularities of flow occur thus extending the zone of turbulence. Twisted or untwisted yarn may be supplied from a stationary or rotating package or double twist spindle to impart (further) twist before the yarn reaches the jet. The yarn product may be collected directly by deposition and/or with controlled overfeed into a sliver can to ensure maximum bulk effects, or it may be wound and/or further twisted. Thermoplastic filaments may be heatset by the fluid within the jet and/or subsequent to collection. If two or more yarns are treated within the jet, they may subsequently be separated or remain entangled to form a composite yarn. Specifications 793,044 and 871,797 are referred to.
