Abstract

871,165. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 21, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 12498/58. Class 112 Frames, work guides. In a free arm sewing machine in which the direction Y-Y of work feed is transverse to the axis X-X of the arm 11, the free end of the latter is provided with a protuberance 29 extending in front of the stitching point 18 to direct a tube of fabric 32 up the arm as the fabric is stitched into a tube on the sewing machine by a longitudinal ram 33. The protuberance is formed on a hinged door which closes an opening in the front of the bed providing access to the looptaker. The concave inner side 31 of the protuberance provides an abutment for the irregularly shaped folds that form at the inner side of the tube, and prevents said folds from moving towards the stitching point.
