Abstract
Linear aromatic polyester fibres or films are dyed or printed with an azo dyestuff free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups of the formula:- <FORM:0870677/IV(c)/1> wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, Y represents a cyano-alkyl group and Z represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group, and the nucleus I may carry as substituents further nitro groups or alkyl, alkoxy, acylamino, sulphonic acid amido, carboxylic acid amido or substituted sulphonic acid amido and carboxylic acid amido groups. Dyeing may be effected at temperatures up to or above 100 DEG C., in the presence of carriers such as benzoic acid or o-hydroxybenzoic acid or their methyl esters, o- or p-phenylphenol or diphenyl, and in the presence of ionic and nonionic auxiliaries. Examples of dyeing and printing are given.
