Abstract

870,155. Laminates. MISSION MANUFACTURING CO. April 11, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 11572/58. Class 140. [Also in Group XXVI] Layers of fabric 12 to 17, each comprising a plurality of non- brittle, stiff, low-liquid absorbing, monofilament synthetic fibres 25, are bonded together in a material such as natural or synthetic rubber so as to form a back-up for a resilient sealing member, (Group XXVI). The fibres, which may be of nylon, rayon, polytetrafluoroethylene, are, as shown, woven in a straight opentype under-and-over weave, but other weaves giving the desired stiffness and permitting elongation of the individual fibres may be used. The back-up may be formed integrally with the packing as shown or, separately, in which case the fibres may be bonded together in a material different from that of the packing. Natural fibres may be interwoven with the monofilament fibres or fabrics formed from the latter fibres may be intermixed with other kinds of fabrics.
