[Also in Group XXII] A spout 21 for a preferably metallic container is slidable within a sleeve 35 formed on a nozzle 20 which is secured on an upturned formation 12, 13, 14 bordering an opening in the wall of the container. A tamper-proof seal 22 and screwcap 23 with a gasket disc 23a are applied over the spout, which has a cut away portion, Fig. 11 (not shown), to facilitate pouring. A mounting rim of the nozzle contains a sealing gasket 28, preferably of the flowed-in type. The spout may be of a reversible type, Fig. 12 (not shown). Instead of being formed in one piece the nozzle may be formed of separate parts, Fig. 17, seamed together at 30a. In a modified form the spout is screw-threaded at its lower end to engage with internal threads formed in the neck of the nozzle, Fig. 14 (not shown). For small containers or those with a shallow recess in the head the nozzle may extend inwardly of the container, Fig. 16 (not shown). The opening is formed in the container during manufacture but the nozzle 20, spout 21, and cap 23 are applied after the container is filled, for which a clinching tool, Fig. 8, is used. This tool comprises an inverted cup member 41, providing a pressure pad 42, and swingably mounted jaws 44 round which an actuating bell 47 is mounted for vertical movement. As the bell 47 is forced down the jaws 44 are swung inwards so that projections 46 thereon engage a portion 26 of the nozzle 20 to clinch the nozzle on the formation 12, 13, 14 bordering the opening in the container.
