Abstract
A dry cement composition which is mixed with water comprises a hydraulic cement such as Portland cement, high Al2O3 cement, pozzolana, iron ore or slag cement and 0,2% to 6,5% by weight of methylcellulose of 10-7000 c.p.s. viscosity in 2% solution and 0,1% to 10% polyvinyl alcohol 70%-90% hydrolysed. 20%-99% cement is present and the composition may also include up to 50% of fillers and pigments such as whiting and TiO2, 50% to 75% of sand, gravel and limestone and 0,2% to 1,5% of urea or a thiocyanate of the alkali or alkaline earth metals and 0,05% to 10% of asbestos fibre. CaCl2, Al, calcium lignosulphate and antifoam agents such as the silicone emulsion polymers or ionic siliconates may also be present. Up to 45% by weight of limestone can be used alone the water addition being 27%-40%, and up to 75% sand can be added with a water addition of 20%-40%. The composition can be used as a mortar, a paint, a stucco and for road patching.
