A centring joint for the shafts 1, 3 of a universal joint comprises a ball 2 fixed at the end of the shaft 1 and a multi-part ball socket 5 of synthetic plastic material slidable in an axial bore 4 in the shaft 3, the socket extending beyond the median plane of the ball so as to embrace more than half the peripheral surface of the ball and being cushioned by a spring 7 which bears against a guide shoulder 8 on the socket.
