Abstract

867,972. Surgical injection appliances. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1958 [June 17, 1957], No. 1817/58. Class 81 (2). An ampoule 1 containing medicament is closed by a ferrule 11, which holds a penetrable diaphragm 7 on the neck of the ampoule to seal it. The neck of the ferrule has a conical bore 14 which is complementary to a cone 21 on the needle hub 21 and the latter has a split skirt 25 so as to be slidable on the ferrule from the position shown to a position in which the bead 19 engages an upper recess 27 and the lower end 22 of the needle penetrates the diaphragm 7. To maintain sterility the needle may be enclosed in a rubber sheath 28. It is also proposed to enclose the entire needle assembly by a tubular cap member, screwed to the ferrule at 15, this being removable for use as a plungerrod by attachment to the piston screw 4, when an injection is to be made.
