Abstract
867,651. Knitting. TRENT ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Dec. 2, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29566/58. Class 74 (2). A circular machine for knitting hose or half-hose in string formation has jacks associated with alternate needles, and on completion of a toe pocket the normal clearing cam 3 is lowered to tuck height, as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, and a jack cam 6 raises the alternate needles to clearing height so that for two courses the needles intervening between the alternate needles tuck whereby a run resistant course is completed. Provision is then made for a draw course to be formed and for this purpose the cam 3 is raised to its normal clearing position as shown in Fig. 2. Also a double cam 8 capable of lowering the needles twice in succession by being provided with two needle lowering surfaces 9 and 10 is provided and first causes all of the needles which have knitted at the previous station to be lowered by the surface 9. A jack cam 12 then raises all the alternate needles to clearing height and the surface 10 immediately lowers them so that they cast off their loops. Subsequently the intervening needles are raised by needle cam 14 and the alternate needles are raised, through their jacks, by cam 15, the latter bringing the needles into the range of a latch opener which is desirable since the needles associated with the jacks are devoid of loops. The welt for the next hose is subsequently commenced and has an elastic insert which initially is fed so as to be taken by the needles raised by the jacks at the cam 12 and which needles knit the elastic yarn at cam surface 10. Subsequently, the jack cam 12 is lowered to tuck height and the elastic yarn is taken but not knitted by the needles. The elastic yarn is eventually withdrawn and knitting is continued until the completion of the article.
