Abstract
<PICT:0867574/III/1> In a process for removing one gas from a gaseous mixture, e.g. carbon dioxide from a gaseous mixture to be used for ammonia synthesis, the gaseous mixture is contacted in two stages 1 and 2 with a liquid absorbent for the gas to be removed, e.g. sodium or potassium arsenite solution, and the absorbent in each stage is continuously withdrawn for regeneration by blowing with air or an inert gas in regeneration zones 11 and 21 respectively, the zones 11 and 21 being arranged so that the air or inert gas used and saturated in regenerating the absorbent in zone 21 passes into zone 11 for regenerating the absorbent from the first absorption stage. Air or inert gas enters the bottom of zone 21 from a blower 7 and leaves zone 11 at 8, sensible heat contained in the effluent air or inert gas may be used in preheating absorbent to be regenerated in heat exchangers 3 and/or 4. When employing sodium or potassium arsenite solution as absorbent the regeneration of the first solution in zone 11 is carried out at about 75 DEG C. and the air used for regenerating the solutions is so heated and saturated in regenerating the second sodium in zone 21 that the temperature of the first solution in zone 11 is not reduced by more than 15 DEG C. during regeneration.
