867,513. Magnetic amplifiers. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. May 21, 1957, No. 16049/57. Class 40 (9). In an amplifier comprising a core 10 with a rectangular hysteresis characteristic which is magnetized alternately and in opposite senses by output and control pulses acting in winding 11 and 12, the demagnetizing effect of reverse or " ringback " current in the output winding due to its inductance 19 and distributed capacitance 17, and leakage resistance 18 and enhancement current of the circuit rectifiers, is neutralized by a corresponding reduction of the control current. As shown, the control pulses are normally effective only in the intervals between blocking pulses +E 2 from a source 16, and the reduction of control current is obtained by arranging the blocking pulse source to provide a constant bias voltage E 1 . This control of " ringback " current is in addition to a bias current in the output circuit supplied from +V 2 by way of a resistor R2. The output circuit includes a load resistor RL, and a biased rectifier circuit D3, R1, - V 1 which provides a short circuit path for outputs below a predetermined level.
