Abstract
866,027. Cupola furnaces. ZWING, F. Aug. 24, 1959 [Sept. 3, 1958; Dec. 22, 1958], No. 28799/59. Class 51 (2). In a cupola furnace, the shaft above the melting zone comprises segmental open iron boxes 1 formed with air passages 5 in their end walls disposed so that small gaps exist between adjacent boxes, and an outer shell 11 with air ports 12. The bustle pipe 9 is blocked by an end wall 16 near the air supply main 14, and the tuyeres 17 slope obliquely. The air main 14 has a replaceable damper 19 which, in the closed position, allows the passage of sufficient low pressure air to operate the furnace after it is heated up, Fig. 5 (not shown). Inspection openings 21, 22 and 23 are provided in the melting zone.
