Abstract
864,553. Tube benders. BENFIELD, J. D., and KOZINSKI, R. R. Sept. 26, 1959, No., 32792/59. Class 83 (4). A portable pipe bending tool having an' arcuate recessed base provided with a grip hook at one end, to engage the tube to be bent, and a radial leverage handle has means for operator weight application simultaneously with arm leverage comprising a treadle member angularly adjustable on the arcuate base at the end opposite the hook. A tube P to be bent is engaged by a hook 72, formed on one end of a peripherally-grooved arcuate former 20. The hook 72 has out-riggers 76 to stabilize the tool. The operator then puts his foot on a treadle 50, pivoted on a pin 54 in a slot 44 in the other end of the former 20, and with the treadle 50 engaging directly at 56 the end of the former 20, applies his weight thereto while pulling on a handle H radially extending from the former 20. The pipe P is thus bent to the form shown in Fig. 6 whereupon the treadle 50 is swung about its pivot 54 until its hooked end 64 engages lugs 42 on the former 20 and with the treadle in this position, shown in broken lines on Fig. 6, the bending is completed. To reverse bend any overbending of the pipe P the bender is moved to the position shown in Fig. 8 and rocked.
