Abstract
864,320. Photo-electric exposure control. ZEISS-STIFTUNG, C., [trading as ZEISS, C. [firm of]] Nov. 5, 1958 [Nov. 7, 1957], No. 35468/58. Class 40(3) A photographic exposure is timed by a condenser charged through a photo-resistor. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 part of the exposing light is deflected by a beamsplitting plate 7 on to a light-variable resistor 9 which may be of cadmium sulphide. To make the resistance variation not nearly dependent on the light intensity, the intensity of light reaching the cell is reduced by a grey filter 10 consisting of a rotatable polarizing disc or a variable diaphragm and the spectral sensitivity of the photo resistor may be corrected by means of a colour filter. In the circuit arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the photo resistance 9 is connected in series with resistors 14, 15 the value of which corresponds to that of the photo resistor with medium illumination. This adopts the resistance variation more nearly to the Schwartzchild's constant. The series resistor may also be variable. In the arrangement shown a different one of condensers 16-22, is selected according to the sensitivity of the photographic material. In operation closure of the main supply causes the left-hand side of the bi-stable circuit to conduct operating relay 28 and preparing relay 29. Press button 32 operates relay 33 and, in turn, relay 35 to switch on the exposing light and removes a short circuit from the selected charging condenser. The voltage across the condenser increases at a rate determined by light intensity incident on the photo-resistor 9 until it is sufficient to change over the bi-stable circuit de-energizing relay 35 and ending the exposure.
