Abstract

863,537. Dispensing measured quantities of liquid. COUNTY LABORATORIES Ltd. Dec. 8, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1959], No. 31590/59. Class 106(5) A dispenser for delivering measured quantities of liquid comprises a collapsible container 1 having a dispensing chamber including a measuring cup 3, a tube extending from near the bottom of the container into the cup so that, when the container is squeezed, liquid is forced through the tube into the chamber, the size of the measuring cup and the position of a discharge opening or openings 8 in the tube determining the measured quantity of liquid, and an outlet 11 through which the liquid is discharged from the chamber. The measuring chamber 3 is press-fitted into the neck 2 of the container, which is of a flexible plastic material, such as polyethylene, and is formed with a tube 5 provided with a plug 6 having three spaced slots which form the outlet openings 8; an extension tube 9 extends from the tube 5 to near the bottom of the container. A transparent cap 10 forms the remainder of the dispensing chamber and is screwed on to the neck 2 of the container. In operation, the container is held in the upright position and squeezed, thereby forcing liquid into the dispensing chamber and thus filling the measuring cup, any excess liquid returning into the container through the openings 8 and the pipe 9; the container is then inverted and the liquid dispensed through the outlet 11. The outlet is closed when not in use by a screwed cap 12.
