Abstract

863,266. Lining tunnels. SPUN CONCRETE Ltd. April 24, 1958 [Feb. 21, 1957], No. 5878/57. Class 85. [Also in Group X] A tunnel lining comprises arcuate pre-cast, concrete segments 5, 7, 8 assembled to form a hollow cylinder, the joints 6, 29 between adjacent segments permitting a limited hinge movement between adjacent segments. All the joints are packed with bituminized mastic, and the joints 29 receive hinge pins 10. The segments have holes 13 for the supply of a grouting material to the space between the segments and the tunnel shaft, the material having less strength than that of the segments. Temporary locating members 14, 15, 16 are fixed to the segments by expanding devices 17, and are bolted together to form a rigid support during erection of the lining.
