863,246. Engine construction. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 22, 1959, No. 32190/59. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXVI] The cylinder block 1 of a flat four engine is made as a single casting. The casting includes camshaft bearing supports 3, tappet guides 4, and one half 5, Fig. 2, of each main bearing support which mates with a separate bearing slipper 6 located in the casting by end flanges 8. The slipper 6 is retained by a cap 9, which is an interference fit at 10, bolted to the casting. The conventional split 14 of the big end of the connecting rods is steeply inclined to the axis of the rod to facilitate access to the securing bolts.
