Abstract

862,707. Ammunition projectiles. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S. A. Dec. 18, 1959 [Jan. 19, 1959], No. 43134/59. Class 9(1). A small calibre armour-piercing projectile comprises a core 1 of a hard material e.g. tungsten carbide, covered by a casing 2 of a light-weight material e.g. aluminium, copper, magnesium, characterized in that the casing has a rear portion 4, which surrounds the rear portion of the core and is of smaller cross-section than the maximum cross-section of its own front portion 2 and is fitted in a hollow cylindrical base of a lightweight material, which supports a ring 10 of hard metal e.g. steel between itself and a shoulder 11 of the casing, and has a rearward extension 6 surrounded by a ring 8 of hard material e.g. steel, in which is engaged at least one driving band 9 of e.g. copper, sintered iron, soft steel. An incendiary or tracer powder 7 is located in a recess within the extension 6 and a pyrotechnic composition 3, e.g. incendiary is packed in a space between the core nose and the casing.
