Abstract
862,006. Moulding insulated electric conductors. GREEN, P. H., and UNIDARE Ltd March 1, 1957 [Dec. 8, 1956], No. 6931/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XI] An insulated wire conductor especially for heating up to 100C. consists of a resistance wire loosely enveloped in tubing of flexible insulating material e.g. a synthetic resin such as polyvinyl chloride, the interior diameter of the tubing being at least twice the diameter of the wire and the thickness of the tubing at least equalling the diameter of the wire, and is made by extruding the plastic through a hollow cylindrical mouthpiece 5<SP>1</SP> of a die 4 having a central mandrel 6 with a hollow cylindrical part 8 through which the wire is fed as the tube is formed. The die has a conical entrance part 5 and the mandrel has a conical part 7 with a central bore 10. An extension 10 on the part 8 of the mandrel prevents the wire from contacting the extruded tube until the latter has hardened, the length of the extension being 12 times its diameter, which is less than that of the part 8 of the mandrel forming the tube.
