Abstract
860,743. Electric immersion heaters. A.E I -HOTPOINT Ltd. Sept. 23, 1959 [Oct. 9, 1958], No. 32293/58. Class 39 (3). In an electric immersion heater having a sheathed wire electric heating element 2, Fig. 2, supported in a header screwed into an opening in the tank or in an opening in a mounting flange 8 secured to the tank, the sheath 2 of the element being hermetically secured to the header 1, the header 4 is an annular member of insulating material having a screw threaded extension 5 through which the heater is secured in the opening, the heating element 2 being supported from the header by having its sheath 2 hermetically secured through openings in a metal plate 10, the rim of 10 being moulded within 1. The annular, insulating member is of a synthetic plastic e.g. polyamide or polyolefine as compared with prior art brass pressings or castings. The heating element comprises a tubular metal sheath containing a coiled wire heating element with intervening compacted refractory mineral insulation. Mounting flange 8 is optional. Heater 2 and thermostat 3 are welded or soldered to plate 10 at 11, 12. Deformable projection or corrugation 13 ensures a liquid tight seal and flange 6 has a knurled rim. There may be more than one heating element.
