860,564. Unit ventilating apparatus. SCIENTAIRE Ltd., and FREAN, F. C. Nov. 18, 1957 [Aug. 17, 1956], No. 25178/56. Class 137 A ventilation system comprises an extractor fan of the high-efficiency centrifugal type coupled at the inlet side to an electric motor 3, both being mounted in a casing 4, to which is secured a grille 5 or equivalent and constructed for installation in the ceiling 11 or cavity wall space of a room with only the grille 5 or equivalent visible and so that the delivery side 17 of the fan 1 can exhaust air via ducting 18 to the outside of the room. The casing 4 and/or grille 5 may have an exterior neck or channel 9 around it or them to suit the margin 10 of the ceiling 11 or wall for mounting the fan 1 entirely therein, the ducting 18 passing therethrough and the outer wall 20 to the outer air and discharging through a wall cap 21 (with a cowl 22 and may be an internal damper), or other outlet. The ceiling space 19 or that in a cavity wall may act as the ducting. The grille may have a flange 12 to fit within the neck 9 of the casing 4. The fan casing may be mounted directly on the ceiling or wall, lugs 23 being provided therefore.
