Abstract

A graphite-resin mixture used as a resistor in an electric heater (see Group XI) comprises a mixture of 30 grams of graphite particles with 20 grams of phenylmethylpolysiloxane resin and 100 grams of toluene with a catalyst comprising 10 parts by weight of diethanolamine titanate, 20 parts of xylene and 20 parts of an ethylene glycol ether, 1 gram of catalyst being added to 15 grams of the graphite-resin mixture. This mixture is sprayed on to a glass cloth and after drying in air is cured for 30 minutes at 80-100 DEG C. An insulating layer sprayed on to each side of the heater comprises a mixture of the same silicone resin with an equal part of toluene, four grams of this mixture being added to one gram of the same catalyst. A heat-resisting base is then applied to one side and comprises 60 grams of the same silicone resin with 60 grams of toluene, 30 grams of perlite and 30 grams of the same catalyst. The resin and toluene are stirred into the perlite to form a damp powder. The layers are built up in a square mould and after curing at 120-150 DEG C. for four hours and cooling, the article is removed as a complete tile. The graphite-resin layer may be insulated between two layers of an epoxy resin.
