Abstract

860,074. Jigging conveyers. ALLEN-HARPER Inc. June 28, 1957, No. 20546/57. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] The conveyer 2, Fig. 1, is driven by a flexible connecting rod 24 which is bolted to an arm 21 extending from a sleeve 19 surrounding the shaft 18 of a pair of unbalanced wheels 17 The rod 24 is secured to brackets 26 on the underside of the con veyer trough and the arm 21 is connected to the upper end of a spring 22, the lower end o which is secured to a plate 10 supporting a driving-motor 12 The plate 10 is supported or resilient blocks 7 secured t( brackets 6 upstanding' from a frame 1. The motor 12, which is bolted to the plate 10, ha: three pulleys 15 mounted or each end of its shaft. These pulleys are used selectively t( drive the wheels 17 through belts 16. A hole 27, Fig. 3 formed off-centre in each wheel receives a sleeve 28, Fig. 4 which is held in place by a spring-pressed ball 29. Sleeves of various weights are provided in order that the eccentric movement of the shaft 18 maybe varied. In the modification shown in Fig. 10 the conveying- trough 37 is supported above a framework 34 by pivoted links 39, the ends of which are provided with rubber bushes 42 to receive the securing bolts. The trough is maintained in the position shown by tension-springs 46, adjacent ends of which are secured to a lever 48 pivoted to the framework and provided with clamping means 50 for securing it at any inclination. The unbalanced wheels 52 are suspended from the framework by a tension-spring 59. In order to prevent an excessive amplitude of vibration at the critical speed of the rotor mechanism, the rotors are maintained in a substantially balanced condition at all . speeds which are substantially lower than the lowest operating speed by constructing them in the following manner. Each rotor 52, Fig. 13, is a hollow cylindrical casing 68 which is fast on the shaft 53 and contains a semicircular weight 69 pivotally mounted at one corner on a pivot 71 parallel to the shaft 53. This weight can move between the position shown in Fig. 14, in which. the rotor is unbalanced, to that shown in Fig. 15, in which the rotor is substantially balanced. A compression-spring 72 contained in a telescopic casing, extending through the central part of the weight, urges the movable part 73 of the casing against a ball 74 which bears on the inner wall of the casing 68. The movement of the weight may be damped by filling the casing with oil.
