Abstract
860,032. Buoys. GARLAND, N. Jan. 21, 1959, No. 2239/59. Class 24. A buoy (Fig. 1) for mooring ships is provided with a shackle device comprising a ball 7 filled with lubricant, shackles 14 for the ship's rope, and sea-bed cable 16. The three connections to the ball are each made by pivot pins 24 and 17 so as to give two degrees of freedom, the lubricant serving to grease the pins 17. Stops 27 limit the swivelling movement. Restrainer 37 (Fig. 6). Alternatively, cable 16 may be connected to ball 7 through restrainer 37, the ball being connected thereto at 16a, the restrainer serving to limit the "rise" of the ball 7. The restrainer may likewise be a disc or ball. Mooring system (Fig. 9). Ships VI, V2 are secured to buoys A, B, C, D by cable 44, 49, the buoys being tethered to the sea bed by cables 34.
