Abstract
859,895. Copying-by-scanning. RANK CINTEL Ltd. March 20, 1959 [March 20, 1958], No. 8916/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 40(3). In an arrangement for copying a photographic . transparency by directing light from a flying-spot cathode-ray scanning tube through the transparency on to photographically sensitive material and thence on to a photo-electric cell the signals produced by which control the intensity of the tube scanning beam in a negative sense to effect a marking control, a timing device is employed to ensure that a desired integral number of complete scanning cycles of the tube are effected for each copying operation. In this manner under exposure of part of the copy image which would result if the scanning terminated during part of a complete cycle is prevented. The timing device may comprise an adjustable sawtooth generator which controls the scanning tube sawtooth generator which operates at the lower of the two co-ordinate deflection rates, the arrangement being such that, at the termination of a desired integral number of cycles of the scanning generator, a pulse initiated by the adjustable sawtooth generator either suppresses the tube beam or closes an electromagnetically released shutter in the optical path between the tube screen and the transparency..
